As the history buffs amongst our readers will be well aware, the Intercontinental Championship turns 40 this year, with WWE first recognizing the championship in September 1979. WWE has decided to make the most of this milestone anniversary with what appears to be a mammoth livestream program boasting a minimum 6-hour running time. This celebration will go by the name 20 Matches That Define the Intercontinental Championship and will be hosted by Zack Ryder. While we currently do not have an exact start time for this extensive retrospective, signs indicate that it should begin in the “afternoon” of the EST timezone. This will be confirmed by WWE.com within the next couple of days. Here is the official description for the multi-hour block:
20 Matches that Define the Intercontinental Title
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Intercontinental Championship, join former champion Zack Ryder as he watches 20 of the greatest matches that made the title prestigious, featuring Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Seth Rollins and more in classic matches and forgotten gems.
To answer a question that some will most likely have, all signs point to this being made available for on-demand viewing, just like any other WWE Network programming.
As a final reminder, 20 Matches That Define the Intercontinental Title will come to the WWE Network on Sunday, September 1st.
